A:        One of the newest therapies for this population is Therasuit Therapy.  The child wears a “suit” that consists of a vest, shorts and knee pads that is connected by elastic cords that are specifically placed by a therapist.  The suit is a tool that helps facilitate proper motor patterns (such as crawling, walking, etc.), while providing additional sensory input.  It also assists muscles that need strengthening.

Aquatic therapy is also very effective in assisting this population of children.  Aquatic therapy in a warm pool allows children with spasticity to relax which improves their ability to move.  The water itself provides resistance for children to work against, while improving muscle strength, balance, and stability. While being in the water, sensory input is also increased.

Traditional pediatric physical therapy services are always beneficial and can address many impairments. A comprehensive PT evaluation is needed in determining which program(s) is best for you!
